We deal with basic and applied questions about the importance of emotions and their regulation for mental health.
Recording of emotion regulation in everyday life
With our smartphone app EmoTrack we record the emotional experience and regulation of emotions in everyday life to better understand how people regulate their emotions in everyday life.
The importance of emotion regulation for psychopathology
An important aspect of our research is the role of emotion regulation in the development and maintenance of psychopathology. To this end, we investigate both clinical samples (e.g. people with depression or a borderline personality disorder) and non-clinical samples. Â
Cognitive control as a mechanism of emotion regulation
We investigate how cognitive control (e.g. working memory, inhibition, shifting) and emotional regulation are related.
Neuronal bases of the ability to regulate emotions
In addition to the report of emotional experience, we are interested in neuronal correlates of emotional regulation ability. For this purpose we use different methods, e.g. electroencephalography (EEG), lesion studies and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
Effectiveness of e-health interventions
We investigate the effects of internet-based interventions on mental health and emotional regulation in everyday life for people with eating disorders.
Evaluation of the group training on emotion regulation
We are currently evaluating the effectiveness of our group training to promote the ability to regulate emotions as part of the ongoing treatments in the psychotherapeutic university outpatient clinic.
