Das International Affective Picture System wurde am Center for the Study of Emotion and Attention (CSEA) in Florida von Peter Lang, Margaret Bradley und Kollegen entwickelt und wird ständig erweitert. Die aktuelle Version ist von 1999 und ist folgendermaßen zu zitieren:
